How to travel?

Airports

Belgium has three airports specializing in passenger transport. The main hub, Brussels Zaventem, is used by all major international carriers. The second, Brussels South Charleroi, is mainly used by the low-cost company Ryanair (www.ryanair.com) and Wizzair (www.wizzair.com). The third, Liege Bierset only serves a limited list of destination. Check it out on www.jetairfly.com

Train

The Belgian Railway Company (SNCB, Société Nationale des Chemins de fers Belges) offers various cut-price formulas to travel in Belgium and Europe. Here are some of the most commonly used. You can find more on their website www.b-rail.be or at the railway station.

Go Pass

If you are under 26, your Go Pass entitles you to ten 2nd class single journeys for only 50 €; so one single journey only costs 5 €. The Go Pass solution is particularly advantageous for longer journeys between two Belgian stations. The Rail Pass similar to GO PASS, but without age limit and for 76 €.

Benelux Tourrail Card

Roaming through the Benelux for five days in one month at a bargain price of 108 € (under 26) or 165 € (over 26).

Interrail Card

This card gives you the opportunity to travel in 30 European countries during 22 days or 1 month. For more informations : www.interrailnet.com

Bus

To go from one point to another in the city, the best choice is the bus. The name of the local bus company is TEC (Transports En Commun). It offers an extended and modern network.

A ticket and information office is located on place Saint-Lambert. You can buy :

  • ticket 1.90 €
  • 8 journey card for 8.80 €
  • Seasons’ tickets cost 36 €/a month and 300 €/a year (Students under 25 can benefit from a 50% cut)

Bus lines 48 and 58 take you from downtown to Sart Tilman and around the various buildings on the campus. They both leave from the Opera house. Their different routes are marked on the maps. Note that only line 48 stops at the main station.
